Our methodology

Join us in empowering a generation of healthy eaters through the joy of cooking

Our kids' daily food choices are crucial for their health. But in today’s world, making the right choices can feel impossible with the ultra-processed food available everywhere and our busy lifestyles.

I believe we have a responsibility towards the next generation to change that because fast convenient food is not an option anymore.

Research shows kids who cook their food are more likely to eat a healthier and a more balanced diet. And here is where Cooking Lama comes in. We equip your little ones with lifelong nutrition knowledge, helping them form a positive relationship with food that leads to building healthy eating habits at an early age.

Unlike typical cooking classes, we approach food education from a holistic lens, viewing each child as a well-rounded human-being—nurturing their mind, body and soul through development across emotional, cognitive, and physical dimensions. At Cooking Lama, we offer evidence-based nutrition & edutainment programs for child development.

Culinary exposure through our programs build lifelong skills that go beyond the kitchen—enhancing social skills, emotional intellect, soft skills, personal qualities and even literacy including reading, writing, and math.

Our integrative methodology prioritizes nutritional knowledge over nutritional facts. Rather than memorizing nutritional data, we help children develop the practical ability to analyze food information, form thoughtful opinions about healthy eating, and develop an understanding of food’s social, cultural, and economic aspects. Most importantly, they develop critical thinking to evaluate how food choices impact their bodies and their lives.

This multi-layered methodology adds depth to children’s learning and builds a positive, lifelong relationship with food—empowering them to carry (1) healthy habits and (2) a greater awareness of the role of food in their lives, long into adulthood.

Integrative Approach

Development of nutrition knowledge and cooking skills

Our classes are not just about cooking nor about memorizing nutritional facts; they emphasize developing nutrition knowledge, which is at the core of our methodology. At Cooking Lama, we provide the practical application of what children learn, serving as a way to reinforce the nutritional concepts.

For example, a child will not only understand the concept of a healthy, balanced plate but will also be able to create one themselves. A child will not only be able to know why an orange is healthy—given its high vitamin C content, but the child will be able to apply this information in life by meal planning, reading labels and making healthier informed decisions of what to eat. These are the practical skills children gain from applying their learnings.

With frequent access to our hands-on edutainment (combining education & entertainment) programs, a child progresses through a series of developmental phases that nurture both nutrition knowledge and cooking skills—ultimately leading to healthier lifestyle choices and culinary independence

Development of life skills

Through our programs, children not only acquire essential cooking and nutrition knowledge but also develop a range of valuable life skills across the cognitive, mental and emotional planes that last them a lifetime.

As they engage in hands-on cooking experiences, they learn important skills like time management, teamwork, and problem-solving, all while following recipes, working with others, and making decisions in the kitchen. Our classes encourage children to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and take responsibility for their own tasks, which builds their confidence and independence.

With our edutainment methodology (combining fun with education), our programs help children develop critical life skills that will serve them well beyond the kitchen, preparing them to handle challenges and make informed, healthy choices in all aspects of their lives.
